Specialists conducted an experiment to learn the effect of cocoa extract supplements on the thinking abilities of seniors.

The experiment showed that individuals who had lower-quality diets experienced cognitive benefits when they consumed cocoa extract supplements containing 500 mg of cocoa flavanols per day.

However, individuals who already had healthy diets did not observe the same cognitive benefits.

How it was studied

Cocoa extract has been investigated for its potential to protect cognitive function in seniors, but previous studies have yielded inconsistent results.

In a recent experiment, 573 seniors participated and underwent comprehensive cognitive tests.

During the two-year duration of the study, the findings suggested that taking cocoa extract supplements on a daily basis did not result in significant overall enhancements in general cognitive abilities or specific cognitive areas compared to a placebo.

Nevertheless, upon further examination of the data, it was discovered that participants who had lower diet quality experienced cognitive benefits from consuming the cocoa extract supplement.

Continued analysis of the data promises to provide valuable insights into the relationship between supplements and human health.
