Boiled or steamed rice can be an amazing source of carbohydrates, and also a great addition to fish, meat, vegetables.

Meanwhile, lots of people dislike eating plain rice, because it's tasteless – it requires sauces and spices!

Let's find out how to make it tastier without adding any useless calories to a dish.

Seasoning

Add flavorful herbs and spices like garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, or a pinch of salt.

These can enhance the taste of the rice without significantly increasing its calorie content.

Broth or Stock

Instead of using plain water to cook the rice, try using low-sodium vegetable or chicken broth.

This can infuse the rice with extra flavor without adding many calories.

Sautéed Vegetables

Before cooking the rice, sauté some vegetables like onions, bell peppers, or carrots in a non-stick pan with a small amount of oil or cooking spray.

Mix these sautéed vegetables into the rice for added taste and nutrition.

Fresh Herbs

Chopped fresh herbs like parsley, cilantro, or basil can bring a burst of freshness to plain rice.

Sprinkle them over the cooked rice just before serving.

Citrus Zest

Grate a small amount of citrus zest, such as lemon or lime, and mix it into the cooked rice.

The natural oils in the zest can add a refreshing flavor without many extra calories.

Toasted Nuts or Seeds

Lightly toast a handful of nuts or seeds like almonds, pine nuts, or sesame seeds, and sprinkle them over the rice.

This provides a delightful crunch and an extra layer of flavor.

Steamed Veggies

Serve the rice alongside steamed vegetables, such as broccoli, peas, or cauliflower.

Mixing the rice with the vegetables while eating can create a tasty and satisfying combination.
