Some interior items can be subconsciously seen as outdated, simply because they used to be popular in the past.

For instance, cupboards often look not modern enough, but it's only if you don't know how to style them.

Here are a few things you can do to fix it.

Clean and declutter

Start by cleaning the cupboard thoroughly and removing any unnecessary items or clutter.

A clean and organized space sets the foundation for a modern look.

Paint or refinish

Consider giving the cupboard a fresh coat of paint in a modern color scheme.

Neutral tones like white, gray, or black can create a sleek and contemporary appearance.

Alternatively, you can refinish the wood to enhance its natural beauty.

Update hardware

Replace outdated or worn-out handles and knobs with modern and stylish ones.

Choose hardware in finishes like brushed nickel, stainless steel, or matte black to add a touch of sophistication.

Add lighting

Install under-cabinet lighting to illuminate the interior of the cupboard.

LED strip lights or puck lights can create a modern and inviting ambiance, especially in darker areas.
Incorporate glass elements

Consider replacing a portion of the cupboard doors with glass panels or adding glass shelves.

This can give the cupboard a more open and airy feel while showcasing any decorative items or dishes inside.

Use contemporary accessories

Choose modern and minimalist accessories to style the cupboard.

This could include decorative objects, sleek storage containers, or stylish baskets that complement the overall modern aesthetic.

Embrace simplicity

Keep the overall design and arrangement of items inside the cupboard clean and uncluttered.

Less is often more when aiming for a modern look, so focus on showcasing a few well-chosen items rather than overcrowding the space.
