Citric acid and salt disinfect the surface well and dissolve rust.

After using the rust removal method, it is better to coat the metal with oil to prevent re-oxidation.

How to Remove Rust from a Knife Using Vinegar

To remove rust you need 70 percent acetic acid. If the damage is minor, you can make a solution with water in a ratio of 1 to 3, or use 9 percent vinegar.

In the case of a knife, the best thing is long soaking.

To get rid of heavily corroded items, soak rusty knives in a bowl of white vinegar and let them sit overnight or for several hours.

Once they are well soaked, remove them from the vinegar and scrub off the rust with steel wool, a sponge, or a stiff brush.
