When it's cold and wet outside, it's almost impossible not to leave any footprints in your house.

While you can always clean the floor, it often takes time and effort to do it – so what can you do?

Here are a few maintenance tips that might help you.

Place Doormats

Put doormats both outside and inside your house entrance.

This will help prevent dirt, snow, and moisture from being tracked into your home.

Opt for durable and absorbent mats that can trap debris effectively.

Encourage family members and guests to wipe their shoes thoroughly on the mats before entering the house.

Remove Snow and Ice

Regularly remove snow and ice from the entrance area.

Use a snow shovel or snow blower to clear the snow from the walkway, steps, and porch.

Additionally, apply a de-icer or salt to prevent ice from forming and provide traction on slippery surfaces.

This will help reduce the amount of dirt and moisture brought inside.

Provide Shoe Storage

Have a designated area for shoe storage near the entrance.

This can be a shoe rack, shoe cabinet, or a simple mat where shoes can be placed.

Encourage everyone to take off their wet or dirty shoes upon entering the house and switch to clean, indoor footwear.

This will prevent dirt, mud, and moisture from being tracked further into the house.

Regular Cleaning Routine

Create a regular cleaning routine for the entrance area.

Sweep or vacuum the floor to remove any loose dirt or debris.

Wipe down surfaces, such as the door, walls, and handrails, using a damp cloth or mild cleaning solution to maintain cleanliness.

Regular cleaning will help prevent dirt buildup and keep the entrance area looking tidy.

Encourage Wiping and Drying

Encourage family members and guests to wipe their feet thoroughly on the doormats and to dry their shoes before entering the house.

This will minimize the amount of moisture, snow, and dirt that enters your home.

Consider placing a towel or cloth near the entrance for drying wet footwear.
