Some cleaning tips on the Internet claim that you should clean your wooden spoons by boiling them.

Though they actually become cleaner after you do it, it's still not the best idea.

Let's find out, why.

You can destroy them

Boiling wooden spoons is not recommended.

Wood is a porous material, and exposing it to high temperatures, such as boiling water, can cause the wood to expand, warp, or even crack.

Additionally, boiling wooden spoons can lead to the leaching of natural oils or finishes used to treat the wood, which can affect their durability and overall quality.

How to clean them safely

It is best to clean wooden spoons by hand using warm soapy water and a gentle scrub brush.

Rinse them thoroughly and allow them to air dry.

To maintain their quality and prolong their lifespan, periodically apply a food-grade mineral oil or specialized wood conditioner to keep the wood moisturized and prevent it from drying out or cracking.

If you're concerned about sanitizing wooden spoons, you can use a mild bleach solution by mixing one tablespoon of bleach with one gallon of water.

Submerge the spoons in the solution for a few minutes, rinse them thoroughly, and allow them to air dry.

Remember, proper cleaning and maintenance of wooden spoons are crucial for their longevity and hygiene.
