In order for quince to quickly adapt to a new place, you need to know how to plant it and how to properly care for it in the first months after planting.

Where is the best place to plant quince

It usually blooms in May-June. It loves light and moisture, but at the same time it tolerates drought and floods very well.

The roots of the plant lie shallow in the ground; quince takes root well in soils with shallow groundwater.

Quince should be planted on a flat area or on gentle slopes.

When does the quince begin to bear fruit

It begins to bear fruit two years after planting, annually and produces abundant harvests.

The fruits ripen at the end of September. The fruits are round, light yellow, smooth with slight pubescence.

Suitable for processing without peeling.

How often should you water quince

If the top 2-3 inches of soil are dry, it is time to water the plant.

On hot days, daily humidity control may be necessary as the heat can quickly dry out the potting soil.

Irrigation of the soil is also necessary if you have a garden. If you live in a hot climate, watering may be required once a week.

Is it necessary to cover quince for the winter

Due to the fact that the quince bush is not tall, it can be covered with the first snow for the winter at the very beginning of winter. Such a shelter will protect the plant from frost.

If this is not done, the quince will freeze to the level of snow.

However, it will quickly restore green mass during the summer.

Quince pruning

Branches left as skeletal ones are shortened by 1/3 - ¼ of their length.

It is not recommended to do severe pruning of quince, as this leads to increased shoot growth, thickening of the crown and delayed fruiting.

When pruning quince fruit trees, only strong annual branches should be shortened.
