Most animals you see around have something interesting about them – you just have to learn it!

For instance, regular squirrels can have some amazing skills that might genuinely surprise you.

Let's find out more about squirrels and what makes them special.

Memory Masters

Squirrels are good at remembering where they hide their food.

They bury nuts in the ground, and their memory helps them find these hidden snacks later.

Front Teeth Keep Growing

Squirrels have front teeth that never stop growing.

They need to chew on things to keep them from getting too long.

Flying Squirrels Don't Really Fly

Flying squirrels don't really fly.

They glide through the air using a special membrane between their arms and legs.

Hiding Nuts Everywhere

Squirrels don't just bury nuts in the ground.

They hide them in all sorts of places, like tree branches, to make sure they have enough food.

Awesome Jumpers

Squirrels are great jumpers. They can jump really far, even from tree to tree, using their strong back legs.

Diverse Diets

Squirrels eat more than just nuts. They also enjoy fruits, berries, and sometimes even small insects.

Social Chatter

Squirrels communicate with each other through various sounds.

They make different noises to warn about dangers or to show they are happy.

Sharp Nails for Climbing

Their sharp nails help them climb trees easily.

Squirrels are excellent climbers and can reach the top of tall trees without any problem.

Adaptable Homes

Squirrels build nests, called dreys, in trees.

They also sometimes use abandoned bird nests. They're pretty good at finding or making cozy homes.

No Hibernation for Everyone

While some squirrels hibernate during winter, not all do.

Some stay active and rely on their stored food to survive the colder months.

Previously, we talked about feeding birds.
