If you (or other members of your family) are prone to allergies, then you should have a pet that is safe for you.

While you can get any pet and just use meds constantly, it's still easier to consider less allergenic options.

Here are some of them.

Fish

Keeping an aquarium with fish is a great option for people with allergies.

Fish do not produce dander, and as long as the tank is properly maintained, the risk of allergens is minimal.

Reptiles

Reptiles, such as turtles, snakes, or lizards, are often considered low-allergenic pets.

They don't have fur or feathers, which significantly reduces the risk of triggering allergies.

However, it's important to note that some people may be allergic to reptile skin or their bedding materials, so individual sensitivities should be taken into account.

Birds

While birds do produce dander, some species are known to produce less of it compared to others.

For example, certain types of parrots, such as the Pionus or the Bourke's parakeet, are often considered to be less allergenic.

Dogs and cats with low-shedding coats

Some dog breeds, such as poodles, bichon frises, and Portuguese water dogs, have hair instead of fur and shed less dander.

Similarly, certain cat breeds, like the Siberian or the Russian Blue, are thought to produce fewer allergens.

Small mammals

Some small mammals, like hamsters, gerbils, or guinea pigs, may be suitable for individuals with allergies.

These pets have fur, but they tend to produce less dander compared to larger animals like dogs or cats.
